Contribute to the Planetarium Fund
Since 2004, we have taken our Starlab Projector to area schools, clubs, and libraries from Kansas City to St. Louis. This great tool for astronomy...(continued) came to Orion Center through a grant from the Kerr Foundation in Oklahoma. Unfortunately, we've never been able to use Starlab in our own science center because we don't have a room big enough to set it up.
We've been working with building contractors and dome designers to estimate costs for a permanent planetarium dome for our Starlab projector system, and now it's time to raise money for this addition to the Orion Center facility. A special fund has been established for donations and fundraising that is earmarked for the dome project with a goal of just $20k to create the only planetarium facility within 140 miles of Lake of the ozarks. The planetarium will seat 40 people for planetarium shows and 60 plus for lectures and video presentations. Our intent is not only to benefit ourselves, but also develop a model for small planetariums in other communities as an economical alternative to commercial planetarium designs costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
If you want to make a donation to the planetarium project, just specify "planetarium" on your check or online donation. All such donations will be placed in our planetarium fund and reported on our web site so you can track the progress. Unless you wish to remain anonimous, the names of all contributors will be acknowledged on our web site and in the facility when it is completed.
